$2 Billion Patriot Agreement between Poland and the USA

The Polish Defense Minister, Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, announced that Poland and the USA will sign a $2 billion Patriot air defense system agreement. Kosiniak-Kamysz hinted at the upcoming agreement with the USA. He stated that Poland and the USA will sign a deal worth approximately $2 billion, including logistic support for the Patriot air defense system, training, and technical support components. Poland’s Defense Minister, seen as a key player in NATO’s eastern flank, emphasized that “there is no price for the security of Poland’s airspace,” underscoring the importance of missile defense and cooperation with the USA. The Polish Ministry of Defense reported that the implementation of the agreement would ensure the operational readiness of the Patriot missile launchers, which are essential for the Wisla program. This program aims to counter short-range tactical ballistic missiles, including those with high maneuverability. Moreover, before President Donald Trump took office on January 20th, NATO made a decision to transfer the command and control of air defense systems in Poland from the USA.
