At least 50 hippos and numerous large animals have reportedly died from anthrax poisoning in the Virunga National Park in the east of Congo.

Emmanuel De Merode, the Director of Virunga National Park, stated today that at least 50 hippos and other large animals have died from anthrax poisoning in the park in Congo, noting that they were observed floating along the river that feeds one of Africa’s largest lakes.

Tests confirmed anthrax poisoning, but the exact cause of the poisoning has yet to be determined, with detailed investigations ongoing regarding the incident.
