60-Hour Rescue Operation in Avalanche Disaster: 46 Workers Rescued, 8 Dead

The 60-hour search and rescue operation launched after the avalanche disaster in India’s Uttarakhand state has come to an end. During the operation, 46 workers were rescued while the lifeless bodies of 8 individuals were retrieved. Following the avalanche disaster in the Himalayas in Uttarakhand state on Friday, the search and rescue efforts, lasting approximately 60 hours in sub-zero temperatures, have been reported to have concluded. The search teams, including the army and state teams, utilized numerous drones and helicopters to locate the steel containers where workers were trapped. According to a statement by the Indian army, 46 workers were successfully rescued from the containers, while the lifeless bodies of 8 out of 54 workers were found. The rescued workers were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Uttarakhand State Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed gratitude to the rescue teams for their efforts under challenging conditions. In the avalanche disaster that occurred in the Himalayas on February 28th, 8 containers and 1 barracks, where 54 workers were involved in the highway expansion project, were buried under snow, leading to a large-scale operation to find the workers.
