7.1 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Tonga: Tsunami warning issued
A 7.1 magnitude earthquake was recorded off the coast of the Pangai region in the Kingdom of Tonga. Following the earthquake, a tsunami warning was issued.
The island nation of Tonga in the Pacific Ocean experienced a 7.1 magnitude earthquake, located about 90 kilometers southeast.
After the earthquake recorded by the US Geological Survey (USGS), a tsunami warning was also issued.
The warning highlighted the possibility of tsunami waves along the Tongan coast within 300 kilometers of the epicenter.
Known as an island country in the South Pacific Ocean about 3,000 km east of Australia, the Kingdom of Tonga is home to around 100,000 people.
