European Union to React Strongly to US Tariffs

President of the EU Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that they will respond strongly to the US decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports. Following the US decision to impose a 25% customs duty on steel and aluminum imports, President of the European Union (EU) Commission Ursula von der Leyen made a written statement. Expressing deep regret over the US decision to impose tariffs on European steel and aluminum exports, von der Leyen stated that tariffs mean taxes and will negatively affect both businesses and consumers. Von der Leyen stated, “Unfair tariffs against the EU will not go unanswered. Strong and proportionate countermeasures will be taken against unfair tariffs.” Indicating that they will take action to protect the economic interests of the EU, von der Leyen emphasized that they will protect workers, businesses, and consumers in Europe.
