New Era in Vehicle Inspections: Card Commission Not to Be Passed on to Citizens

A new era is beginning in vehicle inspection services. Henceforth, the credit card commission will not be borne by citizens when making payments.
The Privatization Administration (PA) has initiated a new tender process to privatize vehicle inspection services for 20 years. The deadline for submitting bids in the tender announced by the PA ended yesterday. The privatization procedures will be completed by August 15, 2027, to ensure the continuity of the public service. The privatization contracts signed on August 15, 2007, will expire on August 14, 2027. Tenders regarding vehicle inspections are initiated at least 5 years before the expiration date of the contract within the scope of the regulations related to vehicle inspections. CITIZENS WILL NOT PAY THE CARD COMMISSION According to the relevant legislation, during the 20-year concession period, 30% of the inspection fees for the first three years, 40% for the following 7 years, and 50% for the last 10 years will be transferred to the Treasury as the public share. In the new era, the credit card commission will not be passed on to citizens when making inspection fee payments with a credit card and will be assumed by the operators. It will be the responsibility of the operators to build vehicle inspection stations and make all necessary machinery-equipment investments. 31 MILLION VEHICLES ARE REGISTERED Additionally, due to the increasing number of vehicles over the 20-year period, there is an obligation to open new stations. Inspections of motorized and non-motorized vehicles registered in traffic will be carried out in accordance with European Union standards in the privatization tender. There are approximately 31.3 million vehicles in Turkey, with cars making up the majority of them. At present, there are 223 fixed and 93 mobile inspection stations operating in the country.
