Bus Plunges off Bridge in Guatemala: 51 People Dead

In Guatemala, a Central American country, at least 51 people lost their lives after a passenger bus fell off a highway bridge into a river. President Bernardo Arevalo of Guatemala declared a national mourning period for three days. In the capital city of Guatemala, a passenger bus carrying 75 people plunged from the Puente Belice highway bridge into the river. Numerous ambulances and rescue teams were dispatched to the area. The Guatemala Fire Department announced that at least 51 people had died in the tragic accident. President Bernardo Arevalo expressed his sorrow and decided to declare a national mourning period for three days. Arevalo also assigned the army and disaster relief agency to support the rescue efforts. The reason why the bus, which departed from San Agustin Acasaguastlan town, veered off the road is currently unknown.
