Exceeding Inflation Expectations in the USA

In January, inflation in the USA exceeded expectations, reaching 3%. Monthly inflation also showed a 0.5% increase. Expectations for interest rate cuts were postponed following the release of this crucial data.

The eagerly awaited US inflation figures for January have been announced.

According to the data, annual inflation in the USA surpassed expectations at 3%. In the markets, inflation was expected to be 2.9%. Inflation also rose by 0.5% on a monthly basis.

Core inflation also exceeded expectations. Annual core inflation showed an increase of 3.3%, while expectations were at 3.1%.

Consumer prices excluding food and energy rose by 0.4% in January, surpassing expectations of 0.3%.

After the inflation data, expectations for interest rate cuts from the Federal Reserve (Fed) were postponed from September to December.

Fed Chairman Jerome Powell, in his presentation to Congress, had stated that there was no need to rush with interest rate cuts.

President Donald Trump, on the other hand, had expressed the need for interest rate cuts, stating that it would go hand in hand with the upcoming tariffs.
