New era from OpenAI: Now available for everyone for free

OpenAI has made one of the biggest breakthroughs in the field of artificial intelligence by announcing GPT-5 and integrated O3 reasoning models. The company has now made this advanced technology, previously accessible only through specific subscription packages, free for all users.

Following the release of GPT-4 two years ago, OpenAI introduced the O1 reasoning model last December. The O1 model was only available to ChatGPT Pro subscribers, but the company is now opening up the O3 model, integrated directly into GPT-5, to everyone.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced on the social media platform X that GPT-5 will offer a user-friendly experience, with access only possible through a ChatGPT account. Before the release of GPT-5, the company will offer the GPT-4.5 “Orion” model as an interim model to users. According to Altman, free users will also have unlimited access to the GPT-5 model, subject to certain security checks to prevent abuse.

OpenAI’s new O3 reasoning model will be integrated into GPT-5, offering users access to a more seamless and logical response generation through its advanced “chain-of-thought” mechanism. The O3 model will be available only as part of GPT-5, unlike the previous independent O1 model. Interestingly, OpenAI skipped the O2 model and directly transitioned to O3.

At last year’s “12 Days of OpenAI” event, the company signaled a major transformation in artificial intelligence systems. The O1 reasoning model introduced at the event attracted attention with its stronger analytical capabilities, despite longer response times. OpenAI, which previously focused on large language models (LLM), is now emphasizing artificial intelligence reasoning capabilities. While GPT models excel in tasks like text generation and question answering, the experience is taken further with O3.

With the release of GPT-5, OpenAI aims to combine two powerful technologies under one roof, offering users both the power of large language models and advanced reasoning capabilities. This development is seen as the beginning of a new era that will fundamentally change interactions with artificial intelligence.
