Bridge collapse in Peru: 2 dead, 41 injured

A bridge measuring 60 meters in length collapsed in Peru. As a result of the collapse, a double-decker bus and a car fell into the river. 2 people lost their lives, and 41 people were injured.

A bridge measuring 60 meters in length located on the Pan-American highway in the north of the South American country Peru collapsed.

During the tragedy, a double-decker bus with over 50 passengers and a car fell into the river while crossing the bridge.

Rescue and health teams were dispatched to the area. During the operations, the lifeless bodies of the bus driver and 1 passenger were recovered, while 41 people were taken to the hospital. The bus, which departed from the port city of Chimbote in the north, was heading to the capital Lima.

The reason for the collapse of the bridge built on the highway in the 1960s is unknown.

According to the Ministry of Transportation, in the country located in the Andes Mountains, 3,138 people lost their lives in traffic accidents in 2023.
