Each package has 9 pieces: Finding buyers for 8 thousand liras per kilo

The first indoor plum harvest of the season was carried out in Mut district of Mersin. Plums, which found buyers at 8 thousand liras per kilo, were sent to Istanbul. Greenhouse owner Mustafa Yılmaz stated that they also export to foreign countries in addition to the domestic market, and emphasized that due to being the only one in the region with early production, they couldn’t meet the demand, adding that the government should provide more support to increase production. The harvest event held in the greenhouse owned by farmer Mustafa Yılmaz in the Göksu neighborhood of the district was attended by Deputy District Governor İsa Uğur, Mersin Forest Regional Director Rıfat Ataş, and Necmi Poscu, the Director of Mersin Forest and Village Relations Department (ORKÖY), among others. Speaking at the event, Deputy District Governor İsa Uğur noted that one of the earliest harvests was carried out, stating, “We hope that such early projects become more widespread nationwide.” Greenhouse owner Mustafa Yılmaz also mentioned that he has been dealing with the greenhouse in a one-acre area for 3 years, saying, “ORKÖY provided 50% support, with 20% being a grant. We covered the remaining amount. It was an open area, we closed it and turned it into a greenhouse. It’s February, we brought out our plums and made our first harvest. If it were outside, this harvest would have been around April 20th or 30th. We pushed it significantly ahead.” Yılmaz also stated that they export to foreign countries in addition to the domestic market, and emphasized that due to being the only one in the region with early production, they couldn’t meet the demand, adding that the government should provide more support to increase production. On the other hand, the first plums of the season found buyers at 8 thousand liras per kilo. A total of 24 kilos of plums, with 9 pieces in each package, were sent to Istanbul.
