An indictment has been prepared for 5 Israeli soldiers who sexually assaulted a Gazan woman with a sharp object while being detained at the Sde Teiman detention center in southern Israel. Security camera footage showing Israeli soldiers sexually assaulting a detained Palestinian had emerged in previous months. Some Israeli far-right ministers and lawmakers had reacted to the detention of the rapist soldiers.

According to a report in the local media, 5 Israeli reserve soldiers, who are subject to indictment, were noted to have sexually assaulted a Palestinian brought to the Sde Teiman detention center in the Gaza Strip on July 5, 2024, using a sharp object. It was stated that the Israeli soldiers committed severe torture, including sexually assaulting the unnamed Gazan near the anus with a sharp object. The tortured Palestinian was reported to have suffered broken ribs and a torn rectum.

VIDEO OF ASSAULT MOMENT HAD SURFACED 10 soldiers were detained on July 29, 2024, in connection with the sexual assault incident. Some Israeli far-right ministers and lawmakers had reacted to the detention of the rapist soldiers. Many Israeli far-right individuals, including lawmakers, had raided Sde Teiman and the base where the detained soldiers were held. Furthermore, security camera footage showing Israel soldiers sexually assaulting a detained Palestinian had emerged. While 5 of the detained soldiers were released, the others have remained in custody since July 29.

SDE TEIMAN DETENTION CENTER IN FOCUS DUE TO TORTURE The Sde Teiman detention center in southern Israel, where detained Gazans are held, has often been in the spotlight due to torture allegations. An article in The New York Times last month reported that Gazans detained at the Sde Teiman detention center were kept blindfolded in an open area with their hands cuffed for up to 18 hours a day in a silent seated position on the ground. It was mentioned in the report that Palestinians brought to the detention center stayed for up to 3 months and many were subjected to inhumane treatment and torture during the interrogation process. Some Gazans who were detained and later released had spoken out about the torture they endured at Sde Teiman.
