Record-breaking number of tourists in January

In January, Turkey was visited by 2.2 million foreign tourists. This broke the monthly tourist record. Last month, the majority of tourists came from Iran. Turkey made a strong start in tourism for the year 2025. The number of foreign visitors who visited Turkey in January approached 2.2 million. These figures were shared on social media by the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy. According to provisional data from the General Directorate of Security, the number of foreigners visiting Turkey in January increased by 6.06% compared to the same month last year, reaching 2,171,118. Among the foreign visitors in January, Iranian citizens ranked first with 240,643 people. They were followed by 203,733 people from the Russian Federation and 165,792 people from Bulgaria. Germany and Georgia followed these countries. In January, the province with the highest number of foreign visitors entering Turkey was Istanbul, with 1,268,000 people. Istanbul was followed by Edirne, Antalya, Artvin, and Hakkari. Turkey, which achieved its target of 61 million tourists and 61 billion dollars in revenue in 2024, aims to have 64 million tourists and 64 billion dollars in revenue in tourism this year.
