Increase of 160% in Grocery Spending

The rising food inflation has also led to an increase in the share of food expenditures. According to a recent study, consumers are now paying 160% more for groceries compared to two years ago.

This situation has caused it to become the top priority in spending. 83 out of every 100 lira in packaged consumption goes towards food and beverage shopping. Household spending on fast-moving consumer goods in 2024 showed a 67% increase compared to the previous year. The data is included in the “Fast-Moving Consumer Goods” report, which includes packaged food, beverages, personal care, and cleaning products. 88 LIRA

According to the report by the Global Expert in Marketing and Public Opinion Research (İPSOS), the average basket size was 88 liras in 2022. It increased by 72% in 2023 to reach 152 TL. In 2024, this figure rose to 229 TL. Therefore, citizens had to spend 160% more compared to 2022. Items such as chocolate, biscuits, and soft drinks, which are not considered essential products, were purchased more this year. Food consumption expenditures were followed by personal and household care products.
