With Ramadan approaching, the market is bustling with activity. Those looking for affordable products have been wandering around the stalls in Istanbul’s Eminönü. Dates, a staple of Ramadan, are among the most popular foods, with prices starting at 140 lira and going up to a thousand. As the days count down to Ramadan, the shopping rush has begun. Once again, many people are flocking to Istanbul’s Eminönü. Dates are a must-have during Ramadan, and their prices vary depending on size, quality, and type. The price per kilo for dates starts at 140 lira and can go up to a thousand. 30% INCREASE Date prices have seen an average 30% increase compared to last year. The most expensive is the Jerusalem date… Its price starts at 650 lira and goes up to a thousand. Besides dates, olives and cheese are among the most purchased breakfast items. The price per kilo of black olives ranges from 170 to 430 lira. SUPPORT FROM ISTANBUL METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) will distribute free pita bread to those in need. IMM will set up iftar tents in many parts of Istanbul, as well as provide services through mobile buffets. Additionally, IMM will provide 2,000 lira worth of Ramadan Vouchers to 100,000 households. Throughout the city, concerts, theaters, film screenings, and special events will be organized during the month of Ramadan.
