New decision for 8+1 taxis in Istanbul

A proposal to convert 717 vehicles from 8+1 taxis to regular taxis in Istanbul has been referred to a sub-commission. At a meeting of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME), the proposal for the conversion of 717 vehicles originally transformed from minibuses and taxi dolmushes to 8+1 taxis into regular taxis was referred to a sub-commission for further discussion. The UKOME meeting, chaired by İBB Deputy Secretary General Gürkan Akgün, took place at the Çırpıcı Social Facilities. During the meeting, an agenda item proposing a change in the conversion commitment clause for the 717 vehicles transformed from taxi dolmushes and minibuses to 8+1 taxis was discussed. The proposal suggested granting the 717 vehicles operating as 8+1 the right to transition to regular 4+1 taxis. The proposal also included the creation of regulations for “Corporate Taxi Management” to work with business owners who want to provide services with 8+1 vehicles leased to legal entities.
In this context, it was stated that business owners who wish to lease their vehicles can do so, while those who do not wish to can undergo the conversion. Industry representatives at the meeting requested separate votes on the leasing of taxis to legal entities and the conversion of the 717 vehicles originally transformed from minibuses and taxi dolmushes to 8+1 taxis into regular taxis. İBB Deputy Secretary General Akgün stated that they would vote on both parts simultaneously.
At the meeting where both parts were voted on simultaneously, the agenda item was rejected by majority vote. Therefore, it was decided to refer the item back to the sub-commission for further discussion.
