Deutsche Telekom to Introduce “Artificial Intelligence Phone”

German telecommunications giant Deutsche Telekom (DT) announced that they will produce an “AI Phone” equipped with Perplexity’s artificial intelligence assistant Magenta AI. The device, which has not been named yet, will be released in 2026. During a press conference at the Mobile World Congress hosted in Barcelona, DT made significant announcements regarding their future plans. Claudia Nemat, a member of the board of directors speaking on behalf of the company, mentioned their substantial investments in artificial intelligence, stating, “We are transforming into an AI company. We are not creating big language models, but we are creating AI agents.” Combining their strengths with Perplexity, DT claimed to be preparing to introduce the AI Phone, which it asserts will fully utilize the power of artificial intelligence. The company will officially unveil this device in the second half of 2025 and release it for sale in 2026. The new AI Phone will allow users to perform tasks such as making reservations, sending emails, sending messages, and making phone calls with voice commands. Additionally, other artificial intelligence partners such as Google Cloud AI, ElevenLabs, and Picsart will also be featured in this phone. According to a report by Ingrid Lunden based on Deutsche Telekom spokespersons, the mentioned phone will be sold for under 1000 euros despite the high technology used. The company aims to differentiate itself in a sector with strong competitors like Apple and Samsung by offering price-performance products considered affordable. No details were shared regarding the specifications of the device during the press conference. While there is no information yet about who will manufacture the device or which operating system it will use, the shared concept drawings strongly resembled Android phones. Details such as hardware features related to the Artificial Intelligence Phone will be announced in the second half of 2025. Perplexity will provide support for Deutsche Telekom in terms of artificial intelligence. The company, established in 2022, quickly experienced significant growth with its AI tool of the same name. Using large language models to search the web and answer users’ questions, Perplexity reached 250 million search queries per month last year. Perplexity AI, which has notable supporters such as Jeff Bezos and Nvidia, aims to become a major player offering artificial intelligence support to smartphone manufacturers if it succeeds in its joint ventures with DT.
