Ten Turkish Origin Deputies Elected to State Parliament in Hamburg

According to the provisional official results of the state parliament elections held on Sunday in the German state of Hamburg, 10 politicians of Turkish origin have been elected to the parliament. Out of the 121 members of the Hamburg State Parliament, Cem Berk, Mithat Çapar, Simone Jasmin Gündüz, Ali Kazancı, Oktay Özdemir, Barış Öneş from the Social Democratic Party (SPD); David Erkalp from the Christian Democratic Union (CDU); Filiz Demirel from the Greens; Cansu Özdemir and Deniz Çelik from the Left Party have earned the right to enter the parliament as deputies. Based on the provisional official results of the Hamburg State Parliament elections, the SPD received 33.5%, CDU 19.8%, Greens 18.5%, Left Party 11.2%, and the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) received 7.5% of the votes. According to the provisional results, SPD has 45 seats, CDU 26, Greens 25, Left Party 15, and AfD 10 in the parliament. The voter turnout in the state also increased by 4.4 percentage points compared to 2020, reaching 67.7%.
