Trump’s Major Defense Plan: Golden Dome against Iron Dome

US President Donald Trump has revealed a significant defense plan created to ensure his country’s security. According to this plan, the aim is for the US to have a defense system named “Golden Dome,” similar to Israel’s “Iron Dome.” The system, planned to have space-based sensors, aims to work against threats on a larger scale. As reported by a leading Israeli news site, the Times of Israel, President Donald Trump requested funding for a state-of-the-art missile defense system with a golden dome to protect the homeland during his address to Congress. Trump stated, “My focus is to build the strongest military. I want Congress to fund the state-of-the-art ‘Golden Dome’ missile shield produced in the US to protect our homeland. Others have it – for example, in Israel. We should have it too. We want to be protected.” The NAME OF DEFENSE SYSTEM CHANGED Trump officially changed the name of the administration’s missile-defense initiative from “Iron Dome for America” to “Golden Dome for America.” Reports suggest the change was made due to trademark issues because “Iron Dome” is a registered trademark of the Israeli defense company Rafael Advanced Defense. INSPIRED BY IRON DOME It was claimed that the US administration chose to change the name to avoid legal conflicts while maintaining the fundamental concept. Trump signed a decree on January 27 calling the program “Iron Dome for America,” but it was changed to “Golden Dome” on February 25. The project envisions a multilayered shield that can defend the entire US against ballistic, hypersonic, and cruise missile threats. Inspired by Israel’s Iron Dome, the system aims to work on a significantly larger scale. USE OF SPACE-BASED SENSORS An important component of the initiative will include space-based sensors and interceptors that allow the real-time tracking and destruction of incoming threats. The US Space Force has established a technical team to develop the potential architecture of the defense system. According to a senior official from the US Air Force, this strategy aims to intercept enemy bomber aircraft before launching missiles at American territories. REAGAN’S DEFENSE SYSTEM INITIATIVE Trump drew attention to the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) proposed in 1983, which claimed to protect the US against possible missile attacks. Referring to former US President Ronald Reagan’s space-based defense system, Trump mentioned, “President Ronald Reagan tried to build an effective defense against nuclear attacks. Although this program led to many technological advancements, it was canceled before its goal was achieved.” Trump emphasized that the technology to realize Reagan’s project was not available in 1983 but is currently possible.
