Putin: Some Still Long for Napoleonic Times

Russian President Vladimir Putin highlighted the need for peace that will ensure the stable development of his country’s security conditions, stating, “We need to go all the way and not bow down to anyone.” Responding to French President Macron’s words, Putin said, “There are still those who long to return to Napoleonic times, forgetting how it ended. Our enemies’ mistakes began with underestimating the character of the Russian people and representatives of Russian culture.” Putin evaluated the current status of the Russian-Ukrainian war during a meeting with the employees of the “Defenders of the Fatherland Foundation” in Russia. Expressing their plan to achieve victory in the war, Putin stated, “We truly await victory. When peace is established, our children will rest peacefully. However, we must go all the way and not bow down to anyone.” Putin then continued, “We must choose a form of peace that suits us, which will bring peace in the long term historical perspective of our country. We do not need anything that belongs to others, but we will not give what belongs to us either. We need an option that will ensure the stable development of our country’s peace and security conditions.” Responding to French President Emmanuel Macron’s remarks on European defense, Putin said, “There are still those who long to return to Napoleonic times, forgetting how it ended. In fact, all the mistakes of our enemies, our rivals, began with underestimating the character of the Russian people, the representatives of Russian culture.” Macron had stated yesterday that Russia plans to further expand its army by spending more than 40 billion euros by 2030 to acquire 3,000 tanks and 300 fighter jets, which continues to pose a threat to Europe’s security.
