108 Years Old and Still Cutting Hair: The World’s Oldest Working Female Barber

Living in Japan, 108-year-old Hakoişi Shitsui has entered the Guinness World Records as the ‘world’s oldest working female barber’. Working as a barber in the Tochigi prefecture of Japan, 108-year-old Hakoişi Shitsui has earned the title of the ‘world’s oldest working female barber’. According to the announcement made by the Guinness World Records, “Hakoişi Shitsui, 108 years old and still cutting hair”. Born in the Nakagawa region of Tochigi in 1912, Hakoişi started her apprentice at a hair salon in Tokyo when she was 14 years old. The barbershop that Hakoişi opened with her husband received their barbering license in 1936, but was destroyed during the Second World War. Receiving the Guinness World Records certificate at a ceremony attended by her neighbors and customers, Hakoişi stated in her speech, “People come from far away to see me, so I want to continue my profession to the best of my abilities.”
