Bomb Attack in Colombia: 5 Soldiers Killed

A bomb attack took place in the Cauca region of Colombia. In the attack, 5 soldiers lost their lives, and 6 soldiers were injured. According to national reports, a bomb attack was carried out against soldiers repairing a bridge in the town of Balboa, affiliated with Cauca. 5 soldiers lost their lives in the attack, while 6 soldiers were wounded. Colombian Defense Minister Pedro Sanchez condemned the attack and expressed his condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers. Governor Octavio Guzman of Cauca expressed deep sorrow for the attack on army troops on the Balboa-El Estrecho road through his X account, saying, “We deeply regret the attack on our army forces. Violence continues to take lives and threaten the future of Cauca.” Before the attack, Colombian President Gustavo Petro, in a post on his X account, had stated that the bridge destroyed by former members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) would be rebuilt, emphasizing its significant importance for the local economy. Authorities held the Carlos Patino group affiliated with the FARC’s central body, Estado Mayor Central (EMC), responsible for the attack. The EMC, led by Nestor Gregorio Vera, known as “Ivan Mordisco,” which never participated in the peace agreement between FARC and the state, is also referred to as the so-called “General Staff” of FARC. According to reports in the country’s media, the EMC, with over 3,500 members, of which 2,180 are armed, finances itself through drug trafficking, smuggling, and extortion in western, central, and eastern Colombia, as well as Venezuela and Ecuador.
