7 tons harvested, sold at 90 TL per kilogram: Silifke to Russia

The strawberries being harvested in Silifke, Mersin are being exported to Russia at a price of 90 TL per kilogram. The busy harvesting season has begun in Silifke, one of Turkey’s leading strawberry production centers. The strawberries, especially those grown using soilless agriculture methods, are having a productive season unaffected by agricultural frosts. Carefully picked and packaged from the plants, the strawberries are being exported to Russia at a price of 90 TL. Producer Mustafa Yazıcı, who stated that they are currently harvesting with 90 workers in the 90-acre soilless strawberry greenhouses, mentioned that 7 tons of strawberries are harvested daily. Yazıcı also stated that the yield will increase as the weather warms up and the number of workers will increase to 350. Atayurt Hal Association President İbrahim Kaynar emphasized that there are 6,000 acres of open field and 2,000 acres of greenhouse and soilless production areas for strawberry cultivation in the district. Kaynar said they are expecting a harvest of approximately 50,000 tons this year. He mentioned a 10-20% loss in yield due to the cold weather last week, but added that despite this small loss, the harvest of their products has begun. He also mentioned that they sell their strawberries domestically for 85 TL and internationally for 90 TL, with the products going to Russia. Kaynar concluded by saying, “We are advising our farmers to produce efficiently. I wish them a prosperous season.”
