Record Export from Turkey to Portugal

Turkey’s export to Portugal in February broke records, reaching $150.6 million. The European Union (EU) remained the best market for Turkey’s exports last month. Export to EU countries increased by 0.3 in February compared to the same month last year, reaching $8 billion. During this period, exports to EU countries constituted approximately 40% of the total exports. While Turkey continues to develop bilateral trade relations in this region, export to Portugal stood out last month. According to the data from the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TIM), Turkey achieved its highest monthly export to Portugal of all time in February, totaling $150.6 million. Export to Portugal saw a 20% increase compared to the same month last year.
AUTOMOTIVE SECTOR LEADS
Looking at sector-specific exports to Portugal, the automotive industry led with $47.8 million in exports. Following the automotive sector, steel industry exported $31.9 million, textiles and raw materials $20.2 million, chemicals and products $15.5 million, and the electrical-electronics sector $7.8 million to the country. Additionally, exports to Portugal included machinery and components $6.8 million, iron and non-iron metals $5.6 million, air conditioning industry $4.2 million, ready-to-wear clothing $2.2 million, and seafood and animal products $2 million. Thus, in February, 9 out of the top 10 sectors exporting to Portugal were industrial.
STEEL SECTOR ON TOP
The sector that saw the highest increase in exports to Portugal in value in February was the steel industry, with $22 million. Following this sector, automotive industry saw an increase of $16.5 million, machinery and components $3 million, ready-to-wear clothing $1.3 million, and chemicals and products $1.2 million. Looking at exports by province, Istanbul exported $38.7 million, Bursa $29.4 million, Hatay $22.9 million, Sakarya $7.8 million, and Kahramanmaras $7.4 million to Portugal.
