According to a written statement from the Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA), the DHC-5D Buffalo model aircraft, which departed from South Somalia yesterday, crashed approximately 24 kilometers southwest of Mogadishu. The crash, which took place around 17:40 local time, resulted in the death of 5 crew members of Kenyan nationality. A statement from the Somali government indicated that a preliminary investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the accident, and search and rescue operations are ongoing at the scene. The DHC-5 Buffalo aircraft is frequently used for transportation and humanitarian aid operations in remote and challenging areas.
