Bayraktar TB3 SİHA scores direct hit with supersonic missile

The Bayraktar TB3, the first armed unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to take off and land from a short-runway vessel, successfully hit its target with the supersonic missile IHA-122 developed by ROKETSAN in its first test firing. According to a statement from Baykar, the Bayraktar TB3 SİHA continues its munitions integration tests, marking another milestone in its development process. The Bayraktar TB3 SİHA took off today from Dalaman district of Muğla with the IHA-122 supersonic missile developed by ROKETSAN. Rising into the sky for the firing test, the Bayraktar TB3 hit the 6×6 meter square target floating in the sea from a distance exceeding 50 kilometers in its first attempt with pinpoint accuracy. The Bayraktar TB2 SİHA in the air assumed the laser targeting task for the firing test. The target identified by the Bayraktar TB2 was successfully destroyed by the Bayraktar TB3. Thus, the coordinated laser marking and engaging ability of the two UAVs in the air were successfully tested. As per the set schedule, the Bayraktar TB3’s munition and payload integration tests will continue throughout the development process. MAKING AVIATION HISTORY The Bayraktar TB3 SİHA successfully took off from the short runway of TCG Anadolu with a 12-degree slope on November 19, 2024. Conducting a historic 46-minute test flight at the meeting point of the Aegean and Mediterranean Sea, the Bayraktar TB3 landed successfully on the same short runway without using any landing support equipment, marking a global first. The national SİHA continued its successful vessel tests and in the second test flight conducted on the TCG Anadolu ship sailing off the coast of Çanakkale, it landed and took off twice without using any landing support equipment. Successfully executing the test parameters, the national SİHA completed the test flying at an altitude of around 20,000 feet. The Bayraktar TB3 SİHA completed the High Altitude System Performance Test on June 25, 2024, flying to an altitude of 36,310 feet at the Baykar Flight Training and Test Center in the Keşan district of Edirne. Taking off with the domestic PD-170 engine developed by TEI, the national SİHA surpassed another critical threshold. The altitude record in Turkish aviation history belongs to the Bayraktar AKINCI TİHA at 45,118 feet. TOTAL OF 967 HOURS 55 MINUTES IN THE AIR The Bayraktar TB3 SİHA remained in the air for a total of 967 hours 55 minutes in the test flights conducted so far. In the long flight test conducted on December 20, 2023, the national SİHA stayed airborne for 32 hours without landing and covered a distance of 5,700 km in the sky. Along with its foldable wing structure, the national SİHA will also have beyond-line-of-sight communication capabilities, enabling it to be controlled from very long distances. This way, it will deliver a striking effect in Turkey’s deterrent power by conducting reconnaissance, surveillance, intelligence, and attack missions against overseas targets with the smart munitions it carries. Baykar, awarded the Export Champions Award, emerged as the leader in defense and aviation sector exports according to the Presidency of Defense Industries and Turkey Exporters Assembly data for the years 2021, 2022, and 2023. Making up one-third of the sector’s exports in 2023 alone, Baykar single-handedly accounted for one-fourth of the total defense and aviation sector exports in 2024, propelling Turkey to a leading position in the global UAV export market. Baykar signed export agreements with 34 countries for the Bayraktar TB2 SİHA and with 11 countries so far for the Bayraktar AKINCI TİHA.
