Email scandal in the US: Sending military information from personal account!

According to The Washington Post, a high-ranking security official in the US sent military details from personal email account. This raised questions about a security breach. Last month, it was revealed that plans were discussed in a messaging group before the US launched attacks on Yemen.

As per the claim of The Washington Post, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz’s deputy shared critical information, including sensitive military locations and weapon systems related to ongoing conflicts, using a personal email account. Other employees were reported to use addresses provided by the government. Meanwhile, less sensitive information, such as program or other work-related details, was sent to Waltz’s account.

RISKS OF USING PERSONAL EMAILS: Experts warn that even sharing unclassified information via personal email is risky. National Security Council Spokesperson Brian Hughes clarified that Waltz did not share classified information through an unsecure account. According to reports, the National Security Advisor created a chat group on the messaging app Signal for sharing sensitive information related to the wars in Somalia and Ukraine. Hughes claimed that Signal was automatically added to certain government devices, but he also stated that its use for sharing classified documents was not intended.

WAR PLANS SENT ERRONEOUSLY: The editor of The Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg, disclosed last month in an article titled “Trump administration mistakenly sent me war plans via messaging” that he was added to a chat group by Mike Waltz. Information regarding the weapons used in attacks against the Houthis in Yemen and the target locations was shared in this group, which included high-ranking American officials.
