Number of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Exceeds 11 Thousand

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, announced that the number of electric vehicle charging stations reached 11,037 as of February. Uraloğlu highlighted that the country’s charging infrastructure is rapidly growing as a result of the increase in electric vehicle production and demand. He emphasized that the widespread use of electric vehicles in Turkey indicates a significant strengthening of the charging infrastructure, paralleling the substantial growth in vehicle production and sales which signals a new era in energy and transportation. Uraloğlu also drew attention to the fact that electric vehicles reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency, and are a crucial step in both individual transportation and environmental sustainability. He noted that the Ministry supports this transformation.

“STRONG ADOPTION OF ELECTRIC VEHICLES”

Uraloğlu disclosed that by February 2024, there were 93,973 registered electric vehicles in Turkey, a number that surged to 208,006 by February 2025, showing a 121% increase. He shared that the number of electric cars sold in February this year reached 10,324, more than double the 4,713 sales in the same month last year, demonstrating the prevalent adoption of electric vehicles. The share of electric vehicles in total car sales also rose from 5.7% to 13.6%.

“70% OF STATIONS ARE LOCATED WITHIN CITIES”

Uraloğlu underlined that the growing number of electric vehicles has increased the need for charging sockets, with the number of sockets escalating from 15,335 in February 2024 to 28,159 in the same month this year. Emphasizing the robust establishment of charging infrastructure nationwide, Uraloğlu specified: “As of the end of February 2025, there are 11,037 electric vehicle charging stations in our country. 70% of the existing charging stations are located within cities, while 30% are on intercity roads. This signifies not only a development for metropolitan areas but also an essential expansion to various regions of Anatolia.” Uraloğlu provided information on the distribution of charging stations by city, stating: “Istanbul has the highest number of charging stations by city with 2,784, followed by Ankara with 1,213 stations. Antalya has 732, Bursa 532, Izmir 504, and Konya 281 stations.”
