Terrifying Claim in Syria: “Over 100 Chemical Weapon Depots Exist”

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) suspects that there are over 100 chemical weapon facilities left by the Assad regime in Syria. It is claimed that some of these facilities have been built in hidden places like caves.

A horrifying claim regarding Syria was featured in the news of the prominent American newspaper New York Times. According to the report, as efforts to clean up the remnants of the Assad regime continue, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) suspects there are over 100 chemical weapon facilities in Syria.

DEPOTS HIDDEN IN CAVES While it is believed that these facilities were used to develop and research chemical weapons under the Assad regime, some facilities are said to have been hidden in caves or hard-to-detect locations. This estimate is much higher than any number Assad has admitted to so far.

“PLENTY OF UNKNOWN PLACES” Assad used weapons like sarin and chlorine gas against opponents and civilians during the over a decade-long civil war. The newspaper points out that the chemical weapon stocks could include substances banned by the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), such as sarin gas, chlorine, and mustard gas. Raid Salih, the head of the Syria Civil Defense, also known as the White Helmets, said, “There are plenty of unknown places because of the lies the former government told to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.” ASSAD GOVERNMENT ADMITTED

The Assad government in Syria agreed to hand over its chemical weapon stockpiles in 2013 after being accused of carrying out an attack near Damascus that led to the deaths of hundreds of people.

However, it was argued by a wide range of people that the Assad government hid some weapons and used them again in the following years.
