Turkey is set to launch its domestic GPS application. With this application, Turkey will provide precise location, navigation, and timing data via its own satellites. In line with the vision of reducing Turkey’s external dependence on strategic infrastructure and strengthening its presence in space, the Regional Positioning and Timing System will be activated. The system mentioned in the Ministry of Industry and Technology’s “2030 Industry and Technology Strategy” will offer Turkey precise location, navigation, and timing data through its own satellites as an alternative to global systems like GPS. The system will perform critical functions in various areas, from military operations to uninterrupted civilian communication networks, smart transportation systems, and precision agriculture applications. Accordingly, steps are foreseen to be taken such as preliminary feasibility studies, atomic clock development, increasing the resilience of existing systems, Satellite-Based Augmentation System studies, and ultimately establishing a Regional Satellite Positioning System. A DOMESTIC MAP APPLICATION WILL BE DEVELOPED A domestic map and navigation application known and used in the international arena that meets Turkey’s specific needs in transportation, urban planning, and cultural areas, while also contributing to the digital transformation process, will be developed. In line with priorities such as ensuring digital independence and security, protecting local users, establishing fair competition, and securing the infrastructure, the aim is also to develop Turkish large language models and artificial intelligence-supported next-generation applications.
