Historical Manuscript Associated with King Arthur Discovered

A rare 13th-century manuscript related to the King Arthur legend was uncovered at the University of Cambridge. According to experts, the survival and discovery of this document until today represent a significant breakthrough.
On March 25, the University of Cambridge made a public announcement regarding the important historical document concerning the King Arthur legend.
This particular manuscript belongs to an old French version of the King Arthur stories known as ‘Suite Vulgate du Merlin.’
It was mentioned that the documents were accidentally found in 2019 in a library in Cambridge, being used in the binding of an old book.
As per the university’s statement, the manuscript was cut, folded, sewn, and heavily damaged to be preserved within the bindings of property records of the 1500s.
However, through modern technologies, scientists managed to digitally edit the content without causing harm to the piece. Using multi-band imaging, computerized tomography, and 3D modeling techniques, the texts were scanned and pieced together like a digital puzzle, revealing the detailed content of the documents.
The leading experts in the research revealed that the manuscript was written between 1275 and 1315, addressing the noble class of the time and being a part of the Arthurian legends.
University officials noted the uniqueness of each manuscript due to being hand-copied, emphasizing the significance of such details in research on the origins of documents. The document, currently kept at the Cambridge University Library, will be accessible to researchers after being digitized.
