Protest “Penguin March” Planned Against Trump’s Customs Duties

Penguins International, a non-profit organization, is organizing a protest march to capitalize on the unexpected interest generated by Trump’s customs duties. The march aims to raise awareness about the endangered status of penguin species.
Although President Donald Trump’s customs duties have been suspended for 90 days, economic chaos continues, and penguins are not pleased with this situation. Trump had announced a 10% customs duty on Heard and McDonald Islands, part of Australia and home only to penguins and seals. In response to this decision, a social media account was created, and a digital resistance was initiated under the hashtag #PenguinsAgainstTrump. However, the penguins are not stopping there. These determined birds, not giving up on “flapping their wings” against Trump, are moving to the next stage of resistance. According to a statement from a non-profit organization, a symbolic “protest march” will be held on Wednesday, April 16, on the islands. Penguins International will livestream the annual migration of Antarctic penguins to their breeding areas in the ocean and will name the event ‘Penguin March of Protest’ as a reference to Luc Jacquet’s striking 2005 French documentary.
The executive director of the non-profit organization, David Shutt, stated: “The wild penguins on Heard and McDonald Islands are facing threats much larger than the applied customs duties. Today, nine out of the existing 18 penguin species are listed as either vulnerable or endangered.” “The unexpected interest in Antarctic penguins offers us an opportunity to highlight penguin species as a whole. We are grateful for this opportunity to take a step towards protecting them for the good of our planet.” The protest march will be livestreamed on the non-profit organization’s YouTube channel on Wednesday, April 16. Additionally, World Penguin Day will be celebrated on April 25th.
