Iran: Second round of talks with the US to be held in Oman

Iran has announced that the decision has been made for the second round of talks with the US to take place in Oman.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Ismail Bekayi, stated in an interview with the official news agency IRNA that “Following consultations, it has been decided that Muscat will continue to host the second round of talks scheduled for Saturday, April 20th.”

After US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew his country from the nuclear deal with Iran in 2018, he sent a letter to Iran’s leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei last month calling for direct nuclear negotiations. Iran responded to the letter through Oman. Iran and the US held indirect talks in Oman on April 12th following the letter exchange. Both Iran and the US announced that the talks were “positive and constructive.” The parties have announced that they will meet again on April 19th. Reports in the US media had suggested that the second round of talks would take place in the capital of Italy, Rome.
