Negotiating Pay Raises for Public Sector Workers: Statement from Türk-İş After Meeting

Today, an important meeting was held for the wage negotiations of nearly 600 thousand public sector workers. It was stated that employers from TÜHİS, HAK-İş, and Türk-İş discussed terms during the meeting.
After HAK-İş and Türk-İş jointly presented a wage proposal to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security on February 25, attention turned to the employer side, specifically the Turkish Heavy Industry & Service Sector Public Employers’ Association (TÜHİS). Upon the workers’ proposal, representatives from TÜHİS met with officials from both HAK-İş and Türk-İş.
Following the meeting hosted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, Türk-İş Deputy Chairman Ramazan Ağar made statements.
Ağar stated that negotiations on terms are ongoing and mentioned that they will reconvene on April 24.
Ağar also indicated that they are not expecting a proposal from the employer side at the next meeting, saying, “It is not a process that will conclude immediately.”
WHAT ARE THE DEMANDS OF PUBLIC SECTOR WORKERS? Public sector workers are demanding an increase in the minimum daily wage to 1,800 Turkish liras. Following this raise, a 50% wage increase is requested for the first half of 2025.
For the other six-month periods, a 25% raise is requested, along with an additional 10% welfare share.
