A Morning that Changed Lives: Teacher Learned, Students Produced

Eren Oruç, a classroom teacher in the village of Dağlıca in the Tutak district of Ağrı, is bringing technology to the village school by transferring his knowledge of robotic coding, which he learned online, to his students. Assigned to the village 12 years ago, Oruç has been carrying out various projects to improve the physical conditions of the village and the school during his tenure. By solving the water problem with a well, fencing the school surroundings, and planting trees, the teacher initiated organic farming activities for the students’ development. Using the income obtained, Oruç purchased robot kits and transformed his classroom into a technology workshop.

With the support of their teacher, students receive hands-on training in various areas from basic electronic circuits to robotic systems. Oruç stated that he developed his knowledge in robotic coding through online training and transferred this knowledge to his students. Expressing that he decided to stay in the village because of his students’ love, Oruç used the words: “One morning the door of the residence was knocked, I opened it and no one was there. Just as I was about to close the door, I saw the stairs decorated with daisies. Then the children ran up and hugged me. That day I decided that I needed to stay here.”

Having improved the physical conditions of the school, Oruç turned his attention to robotic coding training, saying, “We solved the water problem with a well. Then we put up fences and planted trees. We obtained income from organic farming and bought robot kits with this income.” Mentioning that he learned robotic coding online and provided practical training to his students in this area, Oruç said, “We have 8 robots. We have robots that avoid obstacles and perform search and rescue operations. Our children engage with the software, run the robots. I didn’t receive this training in university, I am still learning online.”

Oruç also explained that they created music corners and colorful classrooms to make the school more attractive, stating that he wants the children to embrace the school as their homes and expressed: “I want the school to not only be an educational place but also a living space. Future engineers may emerge from here.”
