Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio have arrived in the city of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for talks between the two countries. According to the Saudi Press Agency SPA, Zelensky was welcomed at the International King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah by Deputy Emir of the Mecca Region Prince Saud bin Mishal bin Abdulaziz and Minister of Commerce Majid bin Abdullah Al-Kassabi. It was reported that US Secretary of State Rubio also arrived in Jeddah. Local media outlets state that Zelensky is scheduled to meet with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and US Secretary of State Rubio. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha had a phone call with Rubio on March 7. Sybiha shared on his social media account that US and Ukrainian officials will hold meetings in Saudi Arabia this week. Sybiha emphasized the Ukrainian desire for an end to the war and the need for US leadership to achieve lasting peace. American and Russian delegations also met in Saudi Arabia on February 18 with the goal of normalizing bilateral relations and ending the conflict in Ukraine.
