Allegation of Israel Striking Iran’s Nuclear Facilities: Trump Comments ‘No Hurry’

In response to questions about Israel’s potential attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities, Donald Trump stated that he has not “postponed” it but currently does not feel rushed about the matter. During a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the White House, President Trump discussed the current developments concerning Iran. When asked about reports indicating Israel’s potential attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities, Trump clarified the situation. Referring to the mentioned report, Trump expressed, “I would not say ‘I’ve postponed this,’ but I’m not in a hurry to do it. I believe Iran has a chance to have a wonderful country and live happily, and I would like to see that happen.” Trump noted that if Iran does not engage in the nuclear agreement, a second option will be considered, stating, “If there is a second option, I think it will be very bad for Iran. I think Iran wants to talk. If they talk, it will be very good for them.” Trump emphasized that he does not intend to harm Iran but underscored that Iran can never possess nuclear weapons, saying, “It’s actually very simple. We don’t want to take their industry or lands. All we’re saying is you can’t have nuclear weapons.” The New York Times (NYT) claimed that Israel was preparing an attack on some of Iran’s nuclear facilities next month, but this plan was allegedly postponed by Trump. NEGOTIATION PROCESS BETWEEN IRAN AND THE US After unilaterally withdrawing from the nuclear agreement in 2018, US President Donald Trump, who called for direct nuclear negotiations with Iran, sent a letter to Iran’s leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei last month. Iran responded to the letter via Oman. Subsequently, Iran and the US held indirect talks in Oman on April 12 following the letter exchange. Both Iran and the US announced that the negotiations were “positive and constructive” after the talks. They stated that they would meet again on April 19, but there were conflicting statements about the negotiation location. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that Oman would determine the negotiation venue as a mediator, and they were awaiting Oman’s decision.
