Allegations of Trump Reviewing Indirect Talks with Iran

The White House is evaluating options for nuclear negotiations with Iran. It is alleged that U.S. President Donald Trump is seriously considering engaging in indirect nuclear talks with Iran. According to a report based on two American officials by the news portal Axios, the White House is assessing options for nuclear discussions with Iran. The report states that President Trump is seriously contemplating engaging in indirect nuclear talks with Tehran while simultaneously increasing American military presence in the Middle East. Trump, who had previously expressed a preference for direct nuclear negotiations with Iran, has now started to warm up to the idea of indirect talks following reports that Iran would only accept indirect discussions mediated by Oman. Trump, who has not yet made a decision on this matter, is working with his national security team to determine the roadmap for nuclear negotiations with Iran. One U.S. official noted that the Trump administration believes that direct talks have a higher chance of success, but they are not ignoring the format proposed by the Iranians nor are they objecting to Oman’s past role as a mediator. Both American officials confirmed that no decision has been made yet, and internal discussions are ongoing. One official stated, “Following the exchange of letters, we are now discussing the next steps to begin talks with Iranians and build trust.”
