Ankara Becomes Pilot Region: New Era for Real Estate Agents Starting After the Holiday

A new era is beginning for real estate agents. To institutionalize the real estate sector, authorized offices will now have a sign with an “E.” The Association of All Real Estate Consultants (TEDB) announced that the implementation will begin after the holiday. Henceforth, authorized real estate agents will have an “E” sign. Hakan Akçam, the President of the Association of All Real Estate Consultants (TEDB), stated that they would introduce the “E” sign system in offices to institutionalize the real estate sector after Ramadan Eid. Akçam explained, “The property trading license number will be written in the bottom corner of the sign. Moreover, the sign will contain a QR code with information related to the real estate consultant.” He mentioned that there are 8,500 real estate consultants in Ankara and 142,000 nationwide. Akçam indicated that Ankara would be the pilot region for this initiative, which will later extend throughout Turkey. He stated, “We will hang the sign at the entrances of offices of responsible real estate consultants, who have a property trading license from the Ministry of Trade. We have requested the Ministry of Trade to make the sign mandatory, and we believe that they will support us.”
Regarding measures against fraud, Akçam noted, “The property trading license number will be written in the bottom corner of the sign. Moreover, the sign will contain a QR code with information related to the real estate consultant. When citizens scan the QR code, they will be directed to the Ministry of Trade’s page to access information about the real estate agent. With numerous problematic issues in the real estate sector, we aim to prevent problematic transactions through this system and want individuals with malicious intent to be completely excluded from the profession.” He explained the process for obtaining the property trading license, emphasizing that candidates must undergo internship ranging from 6 months to 12 months based on their educational background. Following the completion of the internship, receiving a tax certificate and creating a chamber registration are mandatory. Akçam added, “After obtaining a Level 5 professional qualification certificate and completing online training, candidates can apply for the property trading license through the Ministry of Trade’s website. Failure to comply with these requirements will result in disqualification from the profession.” Furthermore, he mentioned that contract-based staff working with real estate consultants are not required to obtain a property trading license. Signs that authorized real estate consultants will hang at their office entrances after obtaining the property trading license from the Ministry of Trade will measure 50×50. The sign will have a red border, with a white “E” symbol on a red house illustration.
