Apple Faces Tax Blow: Will iPhone Prices Increase?

Technology giant Apple has been struggling due to the customs duties imposed by the United States. The company’s market value has eroded by $300 billion, facing one of the biggest losses on Wall Street. With a significant portion of production taking place in China, the company is expected to experience a considerable increase in costs. Experts have warned that prices of many products, especially iPhones, could rise.

President Donald Trump’s trade tariffs have affected companies that manufacture outside the country. Apple is one of the most affected by the disruptive customs duties. Analysts have indicated that if the cost arising from customs duties is passed on to products, the price of iPhones could increase by 30 to 40 percent. It’s yet unknown whether Apple will pass on these costs to customers.

$300 Billion Lost: The majority of iPhone production is done in China. Trump has imposed an additional 34% tariff on Chinese goods. China, in response, declared that it will apply the same percentage of tariffs on U.S. products.

Last week, Apple shares fell by 13% to $188.4. Following the announcement of tariffs, the market value of the tech giant eroded by $300 billion. With over 220 million iPhones sold annually, the company’s major markets are the U.S., China, and Europe. In the U.S., the starting price for an iPhone 16 is $799. Experts have stated that if Apple passes on its costs, the product’s price could exceed $1,142. It is suggested that the price of an iPhone 16 Pro Max could rise from $1,599 to $2,300. The iPhone E model sold for $599 may increase to $856.

$40 Billion Cost: It is uncertain whether any exemption will be granted to Apple. Due to the Trump administration’s strict stance, experts see the possibility of an exemption, as in previous years, as low. The cost of customs duties to Apple is estimated to reach $40 billion. Will Prices Increase in Turkey? Last week, Apple raised the prices of iPhones and many products in Turkey.

With price increases, the cheapest iPhone model reached 49,999 lira, while the most expensive model reached 109,999 lira. It is yet unclear whether Apple products will experience a price increase in Turkey following Trump’s tariff announcement.

However, possible price movements in the U.S. directly impact the company’s products worldwide.
