Attack on Syria’s Tartus Province by Israel

Israeli warplanes carried out an attack on a military site in Tartus province, located in the west of Syria. According to information obtained from local sources, Israeli planes attacked the air defense battalion in Tartus around 20:35 local time. It was reported that the radar system at the military site was targeted in the attack. According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), there have been no casualties so far in the attack, and civil defense and expert teams have started working at the scene. Israel’s Attacks on Syria and Occupation After the intensification of conflicts in Syria on November 27, 2024, following the collapse of the 61-year-old Ba’ath regime on December 8, Israel’s attacks on the country increased. The Israeli army, which began to destroy the military infrastructure and capabilities left by the regime army, expanded its occupation in the Golan Heights of Syrian territory. Entering the buffer zone near the Golan Heights, the Israeli army advanced its occupation further, reaching as close as 25 kilometers to the capital Damascus. Israel has been occupying the Golan Heights, which belong to Syria, since 1967. The Disengagement of Forces Agreement signed between Israel and Syria in 1974 defined the borders of the buffer zone and the demilitarized zone.
