Attacker Who Stabbed Salman Rushdie Found Guilty: Had Lost an Eye

In the United States, a jury has found the person who stabbed author Salman Rushdie in an attempted murder guilty. According to reports in the US media, the trial of Hadi Matar, a Lebanese-born American who carried out the stabbing on Rushdie in 2022, took place. After hearing Rushdie’s testimony about the attack, the jury found Matar guilty of “attempted murder.” Matar, facing up to 32 years in prison, is scheduled for sentencing on April 23. Rushdie, who has been living in New York City for a long time, was attacked by California native Matar with a knife while he was giving a lecture at the Chautauqua Institution near Buffalo on August 12, 2022. Rushdie, who caused backlash in the Islamic world with his book “The Satanic Verses” written in the 1980s, had a death fatwa issued against him by the then Iranian leader Ayatollah Khomeini. After Khomeini, Ali Khamenei, who came to the country’s leadership position, also stated that the fatwa against Rushdie was unchangeable.
