Automotive market continued to maintain strong performance

The automotive and light commercial vehicle market maintained its strong performance in January with a 13.9% decrease to 68,654 units. Despite the decline in sales, the second best January performance in history was recorded.
In January, the automotive and light commercial vehicle market recorded its second best January performance in history with 68,654 units, despite a 13.9% decrease compared to the previous year. The market share of hybrid and electric vehicles, which steadily increased throughout last year, continued to rise. According to data published by the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ADMA), car sales in January, one of the weakest months seasonally, decreased by 12.6% to 55,944 units compared to last year, while light commercial vehicle sales declined by 18.8% to 12,710 units. The automotive and light commercial vehicle market had seen its highest level in history in January of last year with approximately 80,000 units.
The market share of record-breaking electric and hybrid car sales last month, boosted by the entry of new models and the price advantage brought by lower special consumption tax (SCT), continued to maintain its strong performance at 40.6%, decreasing by 1.3 points in January. The share of electric and hybrid motor vehicles in the car market increased by 19 points over the past year.
While pure electric vehicle sales, which were 21,598 units in December, decreased to 6,071 units in January, they still recorded a 71.4% increase compared to the same month last year. Hybrid vehicle sales, on the other hand, increased by 62.2% compared to the same month last year, despite decreasing from 34,834 units in December to 16,642 units in January. Looking at the 12-month cumulative sales, considered as an indicator of trend due to reducing monthly fluctuations in the market, the market share of electric and hybrid vehicles increased by more than 1 from the previous month, reaching the highest level to date at 29.7% compared to January of last year.
