Avian influenza outbreak of H7N9 in the USA: First since 2017!

The US, combating the H5N1 avian influenza, announced the first case of H7N9 avian influenza in a poultry farm since 2017. The US reported the first occurrence of the H7N9 avian influenza outbreak in a poultry farm since 2017. Fighting the H5N1 avian influenza outbreak, the US declared the first H7N9 outbreak seen on a poultry farm in the country since 2017. The Mississippi Animal Health Board stated, “The H7N9 virus is entirely of North American and wild bird origin. It is unrelated to the Eurasian H5N1 clade 2.3.4.4b virus currently circulating in the United States.” Additionally, the report from the World Organization for Animal Health confirmed that no infected birds entered the food system and the entire flock of more than 47,000 birds was cleared of infected ones.
