Benjamin Button comes true: Born old, got younger over time

Tomm Tennent, born in Australia in 1993, made history in the medical world with his birth. Experts explained that Tennent, born with the skin of an elderly person, had much higher levels of hyaluronic acid in his body.

A birth that took place about 30 years ago in Australia shocked the science world. Tomm Tennent, born in the South Victoria region of the country in 1993, came into the world as one of the most extraordinary babies. Tennent, who had the feature that surprised the medical world and the public, was born with much more skin than a normal person should have. Following a process where everything progressed normally until birth, doctors and the family were amazed during the birth. Tomm’s skin seemed covered with an adult’s skin and his face was full of wrinkles.

Scientists who started researching noticed that this situation did not quite match any genetic diseases.

HIGH LEVELS OF HYALURONIC ACID FOUND IN HIS BODY However, examinations revealed that the hyaluronic acid, an important component found in human and animal tissues that provides elasticity to the skin, was present in Tomm’s body at much higher levels than normal. Tomm’s condition was likened to the Shar Pei syndrome seen especially in certain dog breeds. Shar Pei dogs are born with excess skin and as they grow, their skin adapts to their bodies. Tomm faced many challenges due to his physical appearance. But despite all this, he held on to life. Now, 30 years later, although Tomm’s life is somewhat mysterious, his Facebook profile shows that he is maintaining a happy marriage. His profile includes a message that says “Life is simple. You make choices and you don’t look back,” a brief but meaningful explanation of how Tomm lived his life and faced every challenge.
