Early crypto investor James Howells claimed that he accidentally threw away 8,000 Bitcoins in it. Howells had been struggling for a long time to recover the hard drive containing the 8,000 Bitcoins. The recycling and waste facility in Newport is reported to be closing down. According to a spokesperson for the council, the site will be closed in a planned manner within the next two years. Howells claims that 8,000 BTC are in a hard disk that his former partner accidentally threw away in 2013. The said amount of BTC is now equivalent to $780 million. Howells had initiated a legal battle to find the lost Bitcoins, but his request was rejected due to environmental concerns. The recovery attempt was said to require the excavation of 100,000 tons of buried waste. The 8,000 Bitcoins represent approximately 13% of the current supply.
