Blow to illegal cigarettes at customs worth 886 million lira

Customs authorities have prevented approximately 886 million lira worth of cigarette and tobacco smuggling in the last 5 years. According to the Ministry of Trade, customs surveillance teams have prevented around 886.3 million lira worth of cigarette and tobacco smuggling in 5 years. The data from the Ministry shows that between 2020 and 2024, 20.4 million packs of cigarettes worth 472.2 million lira were seized. During the same period, approximately 1.3 million kilograms of illegal tobacco worth 214.9 million lira were confiscated. The value of the 113.8 million packs of confiscated cigarette paper in this period was 90.1 million lira, while the value of 349.4 million packs of cigarette filters seized was recorded as 109 million lira. As a result, in the framework of anti-smuggling activities, approximately 886.3 million lira worth of cigarettes, tobacco, cigarette paper, and filters have been seized in 5 years.
