Brazil’s Former President Urges Justice in the Case Against the Current Leader

During his visit to Japan, former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva expressed satisfaction with the Supreme Federal Court of Brazil unanimously accepting the indictment against current President Jair Bolsonaro and 7 others regarding coup accusations. Lula da Silva emphasized the importance of justice prevailing, stating that Bolsonaro’s claims of persecution are illogical. Bolsonaro, who alleged personal issues with the Supreme Court justices, accused Judge Moraes of fabricating a “baseless story” to charge him. Bolsonaro will face trial for leading a conspiracy to overthrow Lula da Silva, who won the presidential election on October 31, 2022, through a military intervention.
