Accordingly, German professional football continued its growth trend by achieving record figures in revenue, taxes and fees, employment, and spectator numbers. The revenue of the 36 clubs in the leagues in the 2023-2024 season saw a 12% increase compared to the previous season, reaching a revenue of 5.87 billion euros. The previous record was broken in the 2022-2023 season with 5.24 billion euros. It was also noteworthy that for the first time, the clubs in the German Second Football League (Bundesliga 2) crossed the 1 billion euro revenue threshold. In the 2023-2024 season, only 9 clubs in the first division and 8 in the second division were in the black. In the same season, a separate record was set with 62,000 people employed through clubs. This resulted in a transfer of 1.66 billion euros to the state coffers through taxes and fees. The growing interest of spectators contributed to the clubs’ ticket sales figures, setting a new record with 20.7 million tickets sold last season.
