Call for Interest Rate Cuts to Banks

The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) and industrialists have called on banks to reflect interest rate cuts on commercial loan interest rates as well. TOBB President Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu addressed banks in a post on his social media account. Hisarcıklıoğlu pointed out that there has been a total of 7.5 points decrease in the last three months, but a similar decrease has not been seen in commercial loan interest rates. “What are banks waiting for to lower commercial loan interest rates? We expect them to reflect this cut primarily to SME loan interest rates, to support production, investment, and employment,” said Hisarcıklıoğlu. INDUSTRIALISTS ALSO EXPECT INTEREST RATE CUTS Similar calls came from the President of the Ankara Chamber of Industry, Seyit Ardıç. In a statement, it was mentioned that “these cuts are not reflected in commercial loan interest rates through the transmission mechanism.” Ardıç stated that banks should also reflect these cuts to the commercial loan interest rates used by industrialists facing access to finance issues.
